The Last Day!

Today was our last full day in Berlin and tomorrow we begin our journey home. The day began with  the German Resistance Memorial Museum. Nothing says "Good Morning!" like a good tour of German history.
I really appreciate this poem.

First they came for the Communists,
and I did not speak up,
because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the Socialist,
and I did not speak up,
because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionist,
and I did not speak up,
because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I did not speak up,
because I was not  a Jew.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one  left
to speak up for me.

What truth Niemoller has conveyed. Ultimately, we are responsible for the well-being of humanity. It we do not speak up and fight injustice for others, who will fight injustice on our behalf?

These are some of the men who did fight injustice against the Nazi Party.

These are some of the younger generation who did everything they could to peacefully resist Hitler and the Nazi party. They were known as The White Rose Society and consisted of young adults about my age, give or take a few years. They all have incredible tales of courage, of principle, of honor. Many died  because of their stand against Hitler but all are now recognized in Germany as some of the greatest heroes of the time.

Next we visited the Topography of Terror, an extremely graphic museum depicting the extreme horror or the Holocaust.

I'll spare you the gruesome details and photos but I did like this picture.

Afterwards we had our final free afternoon so some of the girls and I headed to the 8-story shopping mall, Ka De We. We only made it to two floors but they were glorious.

Juliette, Paper Blanks GALORE! So wonderful. The majority of the 5th floor was paper. Meggie and Juls, I thought of y'all!

This was us at the subway platform heading back to the hotel. Very few of the stations have these video systems but we were entertained by the ones that did.

Our "farewell dinner" was at a super snazzy restaurant called OxyMoron. It was absolutely lovely!

I made her a bow out of my receipt! She is so cute.

Since we spend so much time at the subway station, we thought it only fitting to have a final photo in one!

I cannot describe to you how funny this moment was! We had been laughing at/with Kim ALL night. After dinner we all parted ways, or so we thought. As we are walking back to the hotel we hear Kim, in her high pitched Korean accent, saying "hey guys!" Up runs Kim, 6-pack in hand. We immediately all burst into laughter which continued for a good 10 minutes. Let it be known that this was for her to take home, not to drink tonight. I wish each of you truly knew how hilarious Kim is. We all love her.

And I love each of you.
